  1. Allied 30578 SwitchGrip Dual Action Plier Tool

The other reviewer is correct in his observations. But I think this tool desrves 5 stars. I reach for it more then any other plier. It is true the flat side is very broad. It has an interesting thin tip that gets into tight areas other pliers do not. Seems well made.

  2. Like many do-it-yourselvers with a tool collecting habit, I’ve accumulated a good colection of pliers. Why buy another one, particularly this odd one? For one, the discounted price was right. Second, it’s a good, solid piece that lies reasonably well in the hand. Third, it replaces two other pliers in my ‘most frequently used’ toolbag – this tool acts as a fairly delicate fine-nosed pliers as well as a heavy-duty cutter/grabber/crusher. It converts between the two sets of jaws with a flick of the wrist. And if you’re working atop a ladder, it may just save a trip up & down to get the right tool. Why only 4 stars? It’s too broad to work in tight situations, especially the pivot joint area, the grips are sized too large for my (small) hands, and the grip insulation is too short for me to trust it for live electrical work. But overall, a welcome and useful addition to my tool collection :)
