  1. This is a handy tool to use when caulking. My only complaint is that the product is flimsy so it will break. I would recommend this product to the beginning caulker.

  2. It was a small purchase, but it has paid huge dividends. It made my life so much easier as I refinished my shower. Great product.

  3. As a cap, this Dap Cap is just okay. It does close the open caulk tubes to prevent air from getting in, but there are other caps on the market that provide a tighter, more secure fit. 2 stars for the cap end.

As a Finishing Tool, I wouldn’t recommend this tool. You would be better off using your finger in a plastic bag or directly beading the caulk. You usually want to go over the caulk just once, but with this tool, you’ll find yourself going over the caulk three or four times. The finishing tool end feels like thin, cheap plastic, although it is bendable. 2 stars for the finishing tool.

  4. I bought one before ever using caulk or a caulking gun. I give it five stars as a cap for a used tube of caulk but one star for smoothing since it’s a poor substitute for your wet finger. It left gaps on one side or the other regardless of how you use the tool. You really need to get the caulk bead smoothed right the first time.

You will become an expert very quickly. Just practice with some inside edges a few times first until you get the basic idea. Be sure to keep your index finger wet, lay down a thick enough bead of caulk, and use one long steady stroke to smooth the bead from end to end or corner to corner. You can rewet your finger and touchup but you’ll probably have to redo the whole length in a single stroke.
