At first glance, the 460-36 Aluminum Speed Level by Empire Level doesn’t appear to be very special, but look closer and you’ll notice that it has a unique triangular-shaped frame. The bottom edge of the tool resembles a conventional I-beam level, but its upper edge comes to a point, forming a sharp angle. This pointed edge allows the level to be used as a precision cutting guide, which is especially useful when trimming wallpaper. Both edges of the level are marked with easy-to-read inch graduations for fast, accurate measuring, marking and cutting. There are very few home-improvement jobs that don’t require a level to determine if surfaces are perfectly level (horizontal) or plumb (vertical). I also hang artwork for a living. This level saves time. The reason I give it 4 and not a 5 stars is the fact that the numbers wear off pretty quick. To fix this I spray the level’s numbers with a few coats of clear polyurethane. This level the blue 460-36 is an improvement to the old gold 450-36 which didn’t have the “0″ center reading at the center of the level which is needed to measure out to your hardware marks.
This unique level is the #1 tool for my art installation business. It gives me the most accurate measurements of any level on the market. I always order 3 or more. The only problem has been the numbers rubbing off too quickly.
If you hanging anything on your walls that takes more than one nail, you need this level! It is the best.
I install framed art of all sizes. I was given two very used Empire Speed Levels ( #450-24 & # 460-36 ) both gold in color. I don’t know how old they are but it really speeds up the process of picture hanging. I’d hate to be without them. As I said, these are used and the numbers and lines are starting to wear off. That would be my only complaint. Hopefully, they’ve corrected this problem with the 2 new ones I’m ordering.
