Works well but have to go over the same spot several times to get desired cut.
So far this mower works as well as could be expected. With thicker, deeper grass, sometimes I have to make two passes (in varying directions) to get the grass to my expectations. But, I also did that with the gas mower I had before this one. Overall, I would recommend this product without hesitation. Happy mowing!
Pros: It’s not a gas-guzzling, exhaust spewing freight train of a mower like your gas-powered ones. It’s almost silent. Perfect for small lawns. There’s really no maintenance and it was a cinch to put together. Stores much easier as well.
Cons: It will take 2 passes. So you will being mowing twice as long. Random blades of grass are left standing. But hey, exercise is good, just make sure you have the time. I’ll probably file my blades before the next mow though. Construction, though easy, is a little flimsy. I feel like sometimes I might torque the tubing right off the base of the mower, especially during turns. And I’m not a fan of the grip. It’s foam and it feels cheap.
Overall, worth the money. It’s clean, good exercise. No maintenance, save for sharpening the blades if you must and adjusting the height. A little bit better construction and this gets 5 stars.
my hubby bought this because it was compact, light weight and gas free. we are in the poconos and have a lot of rocks that would catch in the motor, we went through 2 mowers already. Because this mower is compact, he was able to avoid the rocks in his path. he is satisfied with this mower.
First of all this product is no longer made in Indiana its made in China, but it is improved. Look for the box that says made in china if you buy one. It will be made to the same spec as always but it has been improved. It uses thick nylon wing nuts housed around steel bolts which makes for a tool free set up. It took me less than 10 minutes to assemble. Plus the china one comes with the foam handle pre installed, (an issue that seemed to be a problem on many other reviews). Many people complain that reel mowers miss some of the grass when you cut. You know how when a man starts using an electric razor he has to use it a few times before it starts to cut closely; well this is the same concept. The more you mow your lawn with this the better it will get. The grass will start growing straight up. Many reviews state that pushing a reel mower is harder than using a gas powered mower; but then they turn around and recommend it for women or kids. That just does not make sense. I started using this on a 1/2 acre corner lot and it takes me no longer to do than with my honda gas mower. I actually think it is easier to push since it only weighs 20 lbs. as opposed to the 78 lb gas mower. No gas, no oil, no noise, and no smell. Plus I can let my kids play outside on the lawn while I am cutting the grass and I can still hear them and pay attention to what they are doing; something I could not do before. It will not cut dandelions or tall seeded top grass or weeds. It will cut broad leafs and clovers very well. Actually it does a pretty good job on dandelions if they are wet. Its pretty sturdy and well built and virtually maintenance free. All in all this product is definitely worth the $90 I paid for it.
