I bought a pair from the manufacturer when they first came out. These allowed me to install hardiplank on my whole house by myself, even on top story peaks. They are made from 2 sliding channels of extruded aluminum bolted together through staggered bolt holes letting you choose the reveal you want. A claw slips under the previous row and is clamped down by a handle driven cam with a rubber shoe to grip the previous row. It works great and is extremely tough. I regularly drop them down a couple stories to the ground when I am done with a wall. I leave them clamped to the side of the house in bad weather when I am done for the day. Slight rust on the head of the steel allen bolts, but nothing that would compromise the tool. Most will not leave their tools outside.
Do you own hardiplank siding and add a lot of value to your house. Using a Hitachi NV65AH nailer, Hitachi 13305 nails, and Steelhead 404 electric sheer made it all very easy for me, except for the fact that it is still siding a house
I have used different gauges and nothing compares or even comes close to the pactool gauge. Most gauges are hung from the top of the last board which most of the time will vary board to board and cause your sidng to eventually start running out of level, but with these gauges they are perfect every time since they lock on to the bottom and make it a truly hands free job. A Must Have…..A++++
I install various brands of fiber cement siding on buildings up to three stories high. These gauges replace a helper on a ladder. How much does it cost to have a helper on a ladder three stories up each day? How much does it cost if he falls?
These gauges are extremely cost effective for siding pro’s. They hold siding securly in place, unlike other reveal gauges the allow siding to slip and fall. (How much does that cost?) With Gecko gauges you’ll feel comfortable leaving siding on them overnight! That’s how well they hold! Even with this holding power they leave the siding UNdamaged.(not even a mark!)
We have tried the cheap ones and even the shear clips that you leave in place and these are the best. We have to mod a set get our more standard 4 inch reveal that we use here on old renovations but nothing a bandsaw and a grinder couldn’t accomplish…lol… we also moded our sets by grinding down the back plate to allow it to slip in/out easier so as to not mar the finish when removing on our prefinished Hardie plank (color plus)…anyhow we lovem and re=commend them
The gauges work great, but on the second plank one of the back tabs broke off. We contacted Pactool they had us ship both gauges back (which left me needing a second set of hands) in less than a week we had a new set which seem to be holding up well. I would purchase these again without hesitation, I believe we had a manufacturing defect on the failed gauge.
