Zircon MT6 Professional Metal Sensor
I have performed structural inspections on over 8,000 homes with concrete slab foundations. I have used very expensive and very inexpensive metal detectors over the years in my effort to determine how slabs are reinforced and to accurately locate the rebar. The Zircon MT-6 is the best instrument for the price that I have found to perform these tasks. All Of my inspectors have used the MT-6 instrument for several years with good success and satisfaction.
You’re never sure about whether or not these stud-finders will actually find them, but this one does, and it does it perfectly. It’s accurate, good quality, and is easy to read with the large, detailed screen. Great product.
I bought this unit because we had to core drill over 100 holes in our floor and the engineer didn’t want us hitting any re-bar. The floor we had to drill through was 5″ thick with a metal pan under it, so I knew it would be hard for any detector to distinguish between the metal pan and the re-bar. It seemed to get it right sometimes and other times it would miss re-bar. It also picked up a lot of “stuff” in one area and when we drilled there wasn’t anything there.
Over all I’d give it 3 stars, maybe if it were just a concrete slab over dirt with re-bar it would be better?
On Concrete foundation, the scanner always beep when the find any rock with iron – false reading. Any body guest where the rebar is. However, on CMU (Concrete Masonry Unit) it works a bit better. I do not like the product but if you must have it, make sure check the return policy.
